Myriad announcements make deciphering Day 3 of re:Invent a bit difficult. From bare metal to containers (via Fargate and Kubernetes) to machine learning to IoT, if you have any interest in infrastructure or application development, you were probably covered.
What stood out most of all, however, was confusion. Not confusion in a bad way. Confusion in the sense that with so many options available to solve problems, how do you begin to choose the right path? This only increases in complexity when you realize that it is important, if not critical, to choose the right path on an application-by-application basis.
The biggest takeaway from Day 3? The time and attention required to define strategy is increasing at the same speed as the technology evolution … and strategy and planning are, in most cases, THE critical success factors.
